JOHANNESBURG - Zimbabwe received its first batch of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines from China on Monday.

An Air Zimbabwe plane carrying 200,000 doses of Sinopharm donated by China landed at the Robert Mugabe International airport.

The doses are expected to undergo routine checks before being administered.

 

Frontline workers will get priority for the vaccine.

But some residents are skeptical about taking the jab.

Zimbabwe government is urging citizens to take the vaccine but says it's not going to force anyone to do so.

Meanwhile, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has extended the country’s stringent lockdown by two weeks.

Mnangagwa reduced the curfew to between 8pm and 5am while land borders and schools remain closed.
