Water activities at schools will need approval: Lesufi

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said schools planning any water-related activities in Gauteng - will now have to get approval from the provincial education department.

JOHANNESBURG - Schools planning any water-related activities in Gauteng - will now have to get approval from the provincial education department following the death of Parktown Boys' High pupil Enoch Mpianzi last week.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said a body will assist in drawing up requirements for such gatherings.

Lesufi is planning a feedback meeting with parents and staff of Parktown Boys' High on Friday.

He said, "immediately after this incident we made an analysis, to say where do we have the majority of the problems: the majority of our problems are water-related."

The department said they issued a province-wide communique to schools stating water-related activities must be approved from head office. 

Lesufi also said the department is looking to review camps offering services to schools.
