WC Anti-Gang Unit calls for removal of senior police officers

The Anti-Gang Unit in Cape Town is calling for the removal of senior SAPS members.

CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Provincial Police Commissioner has received a letter requesting the removal of three officers from the Anti-Gang Unit.

The commander of the province's anti-gang unit wants Brigadier Khumalo, Colonel Clark and Colonel Ngobeni removed from the unit.

The letters' author - Major General Lincoln - cites what he calls a total breakdown in trust between him and the three senior members.

This follows the shooting of six police officials while on duty on Wednesday.

Lincoln says the operation wasn't authorized and the officers who were on duty didn't receive the necessary back up.

The provincial office has initiated an investigation.
