Police have been conducting operations to root out zama zama's on Gauteng's West Rand.

"The commissioner of police together with the minister have set up teams to deal with the issue of illegal mining and deal with zama zama's in the illegal activities they get involved, in particular in terrorising our communities," he said.

"We will put this to an end and we'll do it as effectively as possible."
