West Rand municipality to be placed under administration

WEST RAND - The West Rand district municipality will be placed under administration amid a financial crisis.

The municipality is also under fire for investing R70-million in the now collapsed VBS bank.

On Wednesday, municipal workers gathered outside the office of Gauteng Premier David Makhura demanding his intervention in a pay debacle.

Emergency services in the municipality were brought to a standstill.

Makhura says his government will also assist other struggling municipalities.

West Rand workers, who have not been fully paid, have begun industrial action against the municipality this week.
