JOHANNESBURG - Frustration against illegal miners continues to grow in various parts of the West Rand.

Residents in Bekkersdal were out in their numbers protesting against zama zamas, who they say are to blame for violent crime in the area.

Residents say they're prepared to give up their lives in the fight against the illegal miners.

They're demanding Police Minister Bheki Cele address them.

Bekkersdal community activist Sipha Mabuza said: "We’re requesting that Police Minister, Bheki Cele comes to our area to engage us. We’re not backing down on our fight, we will continue to fight.

"We are ready to give up our lives. Our children and families are in danger.  Now that they’ve been kicked out of the facilities they were occupying in the West Rand, they are attacking us in our homes. A lady was killed yesterday in her home. We are very angry. We are prepared give up our own lives in this fight."
