Westbury lays mom to rest

JOHANNESBURG - Heather Petersen has become the face of an ongoing struggle between gun-toting gangs and weary residents of Westbury.

She will be laid to rest on Saturday.

The 45-year-old mother of five was caught in the crossfire of alleged gang-related shooting just a few metres from her home.

Her death sparked outrage in the Westbury community, resulting in running battles with the police.

Residents of the Johannesburg suburb have for the past week been protesting against gangsterism, gun-related crimes and poor policing.

Police Minister Bheki Cele responded by deploying the police's Tactical Response Team to patrol Westbury.
