JOHANNESBURG - The Western Cape government has welcomed the army's extended stay in crime-ridden areas.
President Cyril Ramaphosa extended the deployment of the SANDF on the Cape Flats by six months.
Provincial Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz says the troops are making a difference.
"Just last weekend, we've seen almost 400 arrests. We can see success."
"Of course, you have so-called community activists saying the army is a waste of time, we don't think so."
The SANDF was deployed in the Western Cape's crime hotspots in July.
