Wind producers ask Eskom to take more power

JOHANNESBURG - Eskom has been dealing with an electricity crisis, alternative energy providers are calling for permission to supply more power to the grid.

The South African Wind Energy Association is calling for the immediate release of wind power into the national grid.

It says this will not only help provide a solution to the ongoing outages but will also help cut costs.

Ntombifuthi Ntuli from the South African Wind Energy Association, said, "we've come up with about 200 to 500 megawatts available immediately that can be fed into the grid. That is between whole fleet of wind and solar pv."

Ntuli said the association has 22 wind farms currently producing approximately 22 gigawatts. She said an additional 1.4gigawatts would be availed to come online as soon as February 2020.
