The Wits Student Representative Council has slammed the University’s plan to make vaccination mandatory. Last week the Wits management issued a communique, saying the staff and students who choose not to vaccinate will be subjected to weekly testing at their own cost. eNCA's Gareth Edwards speaks to Wits SRC Secretary-General Nhlonipho Nxumalo. JOHANNESBURG - The Wits Student Representative Council wants the institution to offer convenient and free COVID-19 testing for students.
The University says staff and students who choose not to vaccinate will have to do weekly testing at their own cost.
The SRC is planning to oppose the university's plan.
"This thing of vaccines being forced, the university is using a tactic to say, we do understand that public hospitals do offer free testing but for a student in Braamfontein it is not practical because we do not have a clinic in Braamfontein and the university does not offer that testing," said Wits SRC Secretary-General Nhlonipho Nxumalo.
