Zandile Gumede agrees to leave of absence but won't resign

JOHANNESBURG - Ethekwini Mayor, Zandile Gumede, says she won't resign as Mayor, but she'll abide by the ANC KwaZulu-Natal Executive Committee decision that she take a month-long leave of absence.

She's been under pressure to step aside, pending the outcome of her fraud and corruption case.

Gumede's currently out on bail with strict conditions attached.

The party's PEC has been meeting in Empangeni this weekend to discuss the Durban Mayors future, among other issues.

The body on Saturday reminded Gumede of the party's policy that those charged need to temporarily step aside.
