Zikalala calls for probe after another ANC leader killed

JOHANNESBURG - The family of slain ANC member Maxwell Hadebe is devastated by his death.

Hadebe, the former mayor of eNdwedwe in KwaZulu-Natal, was shot dead outside his business premises on Thursday night.

The 50-year-old served as mayor of eNdwedwe between 2011 and 2016.

His aunt, Thembi Ngcobo has described him as a loving man who devoted his time to his family and the ANC.

“We are devastated. It's a great loss, especially at his age... He looked after us,” she said.

KZN's ANC Chairperson, Sihle Zikalala visited the family to pass on his condolences.

“The manner in which he was killed is very painful, brutal and it shows high level of criminality. We believe that whilst in the province, there's this challenge of killing of leaders, we don't want to conclude whether this is political killing or not. We call on police to open their net wide,” said Zikalala.

The task team dealing with political killings in KwaZulu-Natal will be investigating the case.
