The University of South Africa is not only the largest open distance learning institution in Africa, it’s also the oldest dedicated distance learning university in the world – attesting to this fact, alumni include Madiba, Robert Sobukwe and Ahmed Kathrada who were able to study while in prison during the dark days of Apartheid. UNISA boasts an enrolment figure of 400 000 students - that’s one-third of all South African students.
