YOUTH DAY – LOOKING BACK TO PLOT A FUTURE
As we mark the June 16 Soweto Uprisings, a significant turning point in our apartheid history, we sit down with a man of the cloth. A man who was witness to the events. Arrested, detained, and tortured on numerous occasions, he fought in the trenches to free our people from the shackles of an unjust regime. He presided over the first Independent Electoral Commission which ushered in a new democratic South Africa, filled with hope and aspirations for the future. But 14 years into the ANC's tenure he started speaking out about the cracks which were starting to undermine good governance and accountability. As we commemorate Youth Day, Reverend Frank Chikane is gearing up for another fight - this time to fight the threats to our democracy and to defend our country's constitutional values.
