JOHANNESBURG - Amnesty International says President Cyril Ramaphosa's speech was vague when it comes to problems in education.
Spokesperson Mienke Steytler says Ramaphosa’s address was worrying and short on detail.
Ramaphosa said access to quality education is critical to ending poverty.

The president congratulated the matric class of 2022, praising them for defying the odds.
He announced that government is looking to introduce a new student funding model.
But Steytler says there seems to be no accountability and not enough emphasis on how to deal with the state our education system.
“As usual, the details were quite vague. For example, he mentioned infrastructure and the gains that have been made in infrastructure. and that schools -- about 55,000 -- clean toilets have been installed in schools," she said.
"What we would’ve wanted to hear was, have these replaced pit toilets? Have pit toilets been eradicated?
TThere’s a deadline coming at the end of the month that government set for themselves, yet again it seems they are going to miss it and they’re going to move the goalpost."
