Thirteen people were injured in a head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a car on the M4 Ruth First highway near the Broadway off-ramp in Durban.
DURBAN - Thirteen people were injured in a head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a car on the M4 Ruth First highway near the Broadway off-ramp in Durban early on Saturday morning, paramedics said.
Rescue Care, Crisis Medical and Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on the scene at about 7am “to find chaos”, Rescue Care spokesman Garrith Jamieson said.
“A taxi and a light motor vehicle had collided head-on on the northbound carriageway,” he said.
Advanced life support paramedics found that five people were trapped in the taxi.
The Durban fire department used the jaws-of-life equipment to free the trapped people while paramedics stabilised them in the wreckage.
Multiple ambulances were used to transport the injured people, after they had been stabilised on the scene, to various Durban hospitals for the further care.
Jamieson said events leading up to the collision were unknown.
