JOHANNESBURG - The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is scrambling to rectify an administrative error.
Thousands of pensioners have been left without grant payments in September as a result.
Sassa has assured the public the issue would be dealt with by next week.
It has promised to restore more than 3,000 suspended grants in the Western Cape alone.
Great-grandmother Fatima Ross’s pension was suspended after she, like thousands of others, was not registered for Sassa’s new biometric pay system.
Despite her circumstances, she has remained hopeful after the agency promised to restore her grant before the end of September.
