'Abusive' Hammanskraal principal transferred

13 February 2016 - It seems Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi is not a man of his word. Last week he told eNCA that a school principal caught on camera beating pupils would be suspended immediately. Video: eNCA

JOHANNESBURG - The Temba school principal accused of beating pupils has been transferred.

The Gauteng Department of Education says the Ratshepo High School headmaster has been given a chance to respond to a notice of suspension.

He was caught on a cellphone video assaulting pupils with a pipe from a fire extinguisher, more than three months ago.

On Friday eNCA visited the school and was reliably informed the principal was still at school.

This was after the Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi had told the media in November that he'd suspend him immediately.

Lesufi has been unavailable for comment all week.

After dozens of enquiries from eNCA, Lesufi's spokesperson finally confirmed the principal had received a letter on the morning of Friday 12 February 2016.
