CAPE TOWN - ANC Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe said the party cannot be sold to the highest bidder.

Mantashe was speaking at the party&39;s Western Cape Provincial General meeting on Sunday.

He said some view the organisation&39;s conference in December as an auction of the party.

"The ANC cannot be sold to the highest bidder, it&39;s not in an auction. Now some view the conference as an auction, an auction of the ANC... It can&39;t be. You must know that the future of the organisation is in the consciousness of the members of the ANC," he said.

On 16 December the ANC will start its elective conference to vote for a new president to take over from Jacob Zuma.
