JOHANNESBURG - The ANC says it&39;s working hard to ensure it bounces back from the recent political turmoil within the party.

"The ANC always rises with great strength, this is consistent with how it has carried itself. This past weekend members of the NEC (National Executive Committee) have gone to branches to explain the reasons for the recall and arriving at that critical decision," says ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe.

WATCH: ANC confirms it is recalling Zuma

On Tuesday, the ANC NEC announced that it was recalling Zuma.

This after mounting calls for him to step down as president of the country.

Zuma resigned as head of state on Wednesday night.

His successor, Cyril Ramaphosa was sworn in as president on Thursday.
