JOHANNESBURG - The ANC is expected to announce its mayoral candidate in Tshwane for the upcoming municipal elections on Monday.

Veteran politician Thoko Didiza is being tipped as the party&39;s preferred choice for the capital.

Most of the candidates for the country&39;s major metros were announced on Saturday night.

But provincial leaders turned down the names put forward for Tshwane.

Party leaders met with branches to build consensus around the preferred candidates.

Some reports indicate the meeting was disrupted.

Tshwane is a key battleground ahead of the local government elections, with the DA aiming to secure victory in the metro.

The Northern Cape still has to put forward nominations for its preferred candidate.

The National Executive Committee had to step in after provincial leaders turned down the names put forward.

Party leaders have now come up with two alternatives.
