JOHANNESBURG - Five members of one family have been shot dead in the Nteke area in Marianhill, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

Police say gunmen entered the home and opened fire.

Earlier this week, two family homes were attacked outside Greytown in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, leaving eight people dead.

According to a police statement, a provincial organised crime task team have been tasked by the acting Provincial Commissioner in KZN to ensure that they solve the case. 

The police condemned the attack and urged the community members to assist the police in ensuring that the criminals are prosecuted. 

Mariannhill police have opened a docket with five counts of murder and it has been transferred to the provincial organised crime task team for investigation.

The motive of the attack is subject to the on-going investigation.
