A bus believed to be carrying a rugby team has gone off the cliff on Franschhoek Pass.
*Updated with casualty figures.
CAPE TOWN - A 32-seater bus believed to be carrying a rugby team from Groendal School has crashed on Franschhoek Pass near Villiers in the Western Cape.
It was reportedly one of three buses en route to Grabouw for a friendly rugby match.
ER24 spokesperson, Pieter Rossouw confirmed the accident saying that three people have died and up to 30 others had been injured.
The three deceased are all male - one in his 50&39;s, the other two being players in their twenties. The bus was reportedly also transporting spectators and family members.
Two female cyclists were involved in the accident, and have been airlifted to hospital.
While there is no official word yet on the cause of the accident, reports coming through suggest the bus&39;s brakes may have failed as it came around a bend and swerved to avoid the cyclists.
Contrary to earlier reports, the bus did not go down an embankment, but rather, overturned on the road on which it was travelling.
