Records show that Molefe and Ajay Gupta made 58 calls to one another from August last year to March this year.

The interactions, according to the report, coincided with the acquisition of the Optimum coal mine by Tegeta.

On Thursday at a media briefing to announce its interim results, the Eskom board dismissed the allegations as unfounded.

The parastatal's chairperson, Ben Ngubane, expressed disappointment with the former public protector Thuli Madonsela’s report.

“Thuli Madonsela has struck a deadly blow against Eskom and against the people of South Africa. If we lose Brian, she will taste the blame,” Ngubane berated.

An emotional Molefe also broke down during the media briefing and accused Madonsela of dragging his name through the mud.
