CAPE TOWN - Authorities say they are close to determining what caused the spate of wildfires on the Cape Peninsula earlier this month.

Forensic teams from SANParks and the City of Cape Town are scouring 5 000 hectares of burned land for clues.

The blazes saw a helicopter pilot lose his life, more than a dozen homes badly damaged and large swathes of vegetation reduced to ash.
