JOHANNESBURG - Chaos erupted at the Tshwane University of Technology’s Pretoria Campus during Julius Malema&39;s visit on Wednesday.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader was visiting the campus ahead of the university’s SRC elections on Thursday when violence erupted between ANC South African Students Congress (Sasco) and EFF students.

It’s alleged that students who support the EFF attacked ANC students after Malema instructed them to do so.

"It was really bad on campus, student were being beaten and stoned. He [Malema] came with security personnel and they had guns on campus," said Sasco and SRC member Noluthando Mazibuko.

"About 23 students were injured and some are being treated at the campus clinic, while some have been taken to hospital."

"The reason for the chaos was that EFF had no authorisation and they didn’t follow proper procedure. The university allowed this to happen."

Mazibuko said Malema had left to address the Soshanguve campus, where chaotic scenes allegedly occurred.

TUT management condemned the violence and said the EFF gathering was illegal because it did not follow proper procedures.
