Child's family, Section 27 to sue government after pit toilet drowning

File: The Public interest law centre is taking the tragic matter of 5-year-old Michael Komape, who drowned in a pit toilet 18 months ago, all the way to the Constitutional Court, on behalf of the young boy's family.

File: Despite the launch of a schools sanitation initiative in co-operation with the private sector, pit toilets are still a long way from being eradicated.

JOHANNESBURG - The family of a five-year-old boy who died at a school in Limpopo is seeking justice.

Michael Komape fell into a pit toilet at Mahlodumela Primary School in Chebeng Village in January 2014.

Now his family is suing the national and provincial education departments.

They&39;re demanding a substantial amount in civil damages.

The high court in Polokwane will hear the arguments on Monday.

Komape&39;s parents also want the court to compel the state to supply decent sanitation at schools across Limpopo.
