CAPE TOWN - The grilling of candidates vying to take over from Thuli Madonsela as public protector will get under way on Thursday.
The ad hoc committee will interview 14 candidates over a 16-hour period.

The committee has to go through the candidates&39; credentials, with each applicant allocated one hour in the hot seat.

Among those shortlisted are Deputy Public Protector Kevin Malunga and High Court Judge Seraj Desai.
Madonsela’s seven-year tenure comes to an end in October.
But some lobby groups are worried about some aspects of the process so far.
"There have been shortcuts and I think those short cuts pose risks," said Alison Tilley of the Open Democracy Advice Centre.
"That would be one of my concerns and also that parliament doesn&39;t have the capacity to do a thorough forensic investigation into different candidates."
