JOHANNESBURG - Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has found that Cooperative Governance Minister Des van Rooyen lied to Parliament.

In her response to a DA complaint, Mkhwebane said Van Rooyen deliberately misled MPs when he answered a question about a meeting with the controversial Gupta family.

The minister claimed he had not visited the family&39;s home in Saxonwold, Johannesburg, since taking office.

But the Public Protector&39;s report found this was a lie that put Van Rooyen in violation of the Executive Ethics Code .

Mkhwebane has ordered the president to take action against Van Rooyen.

Van Rooyen maintains he met with the Guptas in his capacity as treasurer general of the ANC&39;s Military Veterans Association.
