Eskom may proceed with nuclear procurement processes

JOHANNESBURG - Eskom will handle procurement for the country's nuclear programme.

The Energy Department revealed this in court on Tuesday.

Environemntal groups are challenging government's nuclear plans.

Earthlife Africa and the Southern African Faith Communities' Environment Institute brought the case in the Western Cape High Court.

They argue nuclear plans are a threat to the environment and the country cannot afford the financial cost.

They want all procurement put on hold, until the case is wrapped up.

The matter will resume next year.

The judge has ruled Eskom may proceed with procurement processes in the interim.
