JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) succession race is officially a two-horse race between Cyril Ramaphosa and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, but what happens next?

The conference has been marked by massive delays, but on Sunday the party officially tabled credentials, paving the way for the presentation of official nominations for the party's top six.

The ANC indicated that the winners of this vote will be announced on Monday.

The way forward from there is as follows:

• The announcement of the party's top six will be followed by closed sessions where the party will discuss various organisational reports emanating from its mid-year policy conference
• After this, the nominations for the National Executive Committee (NEC) will be tabled
• This will be followed by more organisational reports being discussed, again behind closed doors
• Only at the end of the conference on 20 December will the full NEC be announced
