CAPE TOWN - More than 26 families in Wynberg are threatening court action against the City of Cape Town over plans to demolish their homes.

The land is earmarked for the construction of a new MyCiTi bus route.

Residents said the move was similar to forced removals during apartheid.

"As soon as the city makes its plans perfectly clear this is going to going to the courts and I believe in the system, that the courts will see you can&39;t build a road and sacrifice houses," said Clive Miller of the South Road Families&39; Association.

The city&39;s plan to construct the road in Wynberg was approved in 2002.

It will be the second phase of the MyCiti bus service between Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain and Wynberg.
