Fire engulfs Durban's M4 freeway

DURBAN - One fireman sustained minor injuries after a raging fire destroyed around 200 metres on the M4 South freeway in Clairwood, Durban.

eThekwini municipality’s fire and emergency services Division Commander, Melvin Ramlall said there was structural damage to the bridge.

"Trailers and wooden pallets were totally destroyed. There was lots of explosions."

Traffic had been severely affected and access to the area was restricted.

Ramlall said the fire had been contained and an investigation into the cause of the fire was under way.

 No one else was injured.
