JOHANNESBURG – Five miners are missing at Kusasalethu mine in Carletonville, west of Johannesburg,  following a seismic incident on Friday.

Harmony Gold Mining Company said its management team and the Department of Mineral Resources “are at the mine to ensure that every effort is made to return the employees to safety”.

“Rescue teams have been working endlessly since the incident occurred at about 10.30 this morning,” the company said in a statement.

The mining company added that rescue efforts were continuing and that it would provide further updates.
