Severe afternoon thunderstorms resulted in flooding in Braamfontein and along numerous sections of the M1 on Thursday.
JOHANNESBURG - Flash flooding early on Thursday afternoon played havoc with Johannesburg traffic.
The Braamfontein area was most severely affected, with Smit Street submerged under water.
Flooding was also reported in Houghton, as well as on the M1 Double Decker highway around Gold Reef City and on the M1 South just before the Joe Slovo Drive offramp.

Motorists have been warned to drive with extreme caution and to be wary of traffic delays in affected areas.
