CAPE TOWN - Albie Morkel is wondering if he has stumbled upon a piece of a missing plane from Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

The former Proteas all-rounder found the object while playing cricket with his son on a beach in Mossel Bay.

It will be handed over to the South African Civil Aviation Authority for analysis.

The Malaysian plane went missing in 2014, with over 200 passengers on board.

It was en-route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and may have crashed in the Indian Ocean.

Plane debris has been found along various coastlines, including Mozambique, Reunion Island and Mauritius.
