JOHANNESBURG - One of the Fees Must Fall protest leaders, Mcebo Dlamini is expected to appear in court Monday.
Dlamini was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning at a Wits University residence in Parktown.
Protestors gathered outside the Cleveland Police Station, where the 32 year old is being held, on Sunday.
Police said Dlamini’s arrest is part of an ongoing probe into violence, criminality and intimidation.
Officers say more arrests are likely as their investigations continue, but students say they are not deterred.
“Basically what we are saying is that the university must demilitarise our campuses, we are tired of having police on campus; we can’t even study in peace those who want to study for the exams."
"Our call is simply we are saying both to the university and the state we need free quality higher education it makes no use to arrest one of us cause we will react in a manner that won’t please them, said David Manabile a Wits student leader.
