Stjwetla residents picking up the pieces after flash floods in Alexandra
JOHANNESBURG - Community members in are still searching for a four-year-old child in the township of Alexandra after Wednesday's flash floods.
The Chauke family in the Stjwetla area climbed a tree in an effort to seek shelter but their four-year-old slipped and fell into the Jukskei River.

Police divers were on the scene on Wednesday morning frantically searching for the child.

Community members have expressed sympathy for the family.
"I understand the flood was too much, we've got some of the people here who are homeless right now,” said community leader Richard Makondwa.
We are feeling pity for the guy who is has lost his kid, a four-year-old child, is this the only child who is missing at this point, they say that."
The flash floods affected areas mostly around Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni. A number of vehicles were trapped on the N3 around the Gillooly's interchange. At least four people have been reported dead.
