JOHANNESBURG – A groom was arrested for murder and attempted murder in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday.
“It is alleged that there was a traditional wedding taking place at Ezingwenya reserve, in the homestead of the suspect who was getting married. Since it was a traditional wedding, a number of people were attending the wedding. While the ceremony was on, a fight broke through between young males,” said KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.
The suspect allegedly started firing warning shots to disperse the crowd and an 18-year-old victim sustained gunshot wounds to his leg and armpit. He died at the scene.
The other victim survived gunshot wounds to his left arm and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
The firearm was confiscated. The groom will appear at the Eshowe Magistrates’ Court to face charges at a date yet to be determined.
