Durban - A KwaZulu-Natal couple on honeymoon were killed in a head-on collision on the South Coast just hours after their wedding in Durban at the weekend, The Mercury reported on Tuesday.

A teenager, on holiday from Gauteng with his parents, reportedly died in the same accident which happened near Margate on the R61.

Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said, “A VW Polo and the Toyota were in (a) head collision on R61 close to Margate... a young boy and an Indian male and female died on the scene.”

Mfeka said the police attended to the accident in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said by the time emergency teams arrived, the couple and the boy, who was in the other car, were dead.

The driver of the other car was seriously injured and was recovering in hospital on Monday night.

Botha said, “One person survived and was rushed hospital.”

Police said a culpable homicide case had been opened against the driver of the other car.
