IEC will do its best not to delay local elections

JOHANNESBURG - The Independent Electoral Commission says it will do its best not to delay local government elections.

It’s facing an administrative nightmare after the Electoral Court ordered it to postpone by-elections in Tlokwe in Potchefstroom.

The commission had failed to provide candidates with addresses for over 4,000 residents in the area.

According to the Constitution, municipal elections must take place between 18 May and 16 August 2016.
