JOHANNESBURG - The Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors says it will investigate KPMG's 2014 audit of Linkway Trading, a company allegedly involved in the Gupta wedding scandal.

The auditor watchdog suspects KPMG passed off wedding expenses as business costs.

Leaked emails suggest laundered South African taxpayer money was used to pay for the lavish Gupta wedding, held at Sun City in 2013.

An AmaBhungane investigative report says millions meant for a Free State government empowerment project were instead used to pay for the wedding.

The auditors watchdog will investigate KPMG  even though the firm cut ties with the affected parties in 2015.
