Monitor pleads with Moerane Commission to keep witnesses safe


Sizwe Gwala, brother of National Freedom Party member Mthunzi Gwala (killed in Umlazi in 2012), was on Thursday the first witness at the Moerane Commission.

DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal violence monitor Marry de Haas is pleading with the Moerane Commission to provide protection to key witnesses.

De Haas said Thabiso Zulu’s life is in danger after he testified before the commission.

Zulu is the former ANC Youth leader in the Harry Gwala region.

He told the commission that former league secretary Sindiso Magaqa was killed for fighting corruption.

De Haas said Zulu&39;s ANC associate, Less Stuta, is also in danger for speaking out during Magaqa’s funeral in September.

She said the Moerane Commission was established to investigate political killings and promised to offer protection to those in danger.
