KZN declared disaster area

JOHANNESBURG – KwaZulu-Natal has been declared a disaster area.

Heavy rainfall and gale force winds wreaked havoc on the country's east coast.

At least 8 people have died and more people are still missing.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu said: “The Provincial Executive committee this morning declared a disaster area...there was a special meeting so that we take that resolution if necessary, after our assessment we were convinced that is required, what we will now be doing is engage with the national disaster centre so that the necessary financial assistance is given..cos [sic] you will know this disaster happened at a very bad time for all government structures. But there is for now a disaster declared by the provincial government.”
