LIVE BLOG: CEOs, students 'slum it' for a good cause

CEOs and students rough it up on Mandela Bridge for charity.

JOHANNESBURG - Chief Executive Officers from some of the country&39;s top companies will sleep on the Mandela Bridge on Thursday night in a bid to raise money for three education-focused organisations.

The trustee of The CEO SleepOut, Darren Olivier, said the SleepOut was created to mobilise business leaders for social change.

This year’s theme is ‘Rise to the Challenge’, and chief executives have been asked to bring three future leaders with them to spend the night outdoors, raise awareness and empathy for the homeless, and raise funds for education.”

While the CEOs will be spending the night on the Nelson Mandela Bridge, student residents of South Point will spend the night of July 28 sleeping on Melle Street in Braamfontein to raise awareness about homelessness. This Student SleepOut will happen concurrently with the Sun International CEO SleepOut.

Khetha Msame, Marketing and Sales Coordinator for South Point, which is the biggest private accommodation provider for students, said this was a challenge to all students to come and experience the discomfort of homelessness.
