eNCA sports editor OG Molefe will attempt to summit Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for school girls who cannot afford sanitary towels.
JOHANNESBURG - eNCA sports editor OG Molefe will attempt to summit Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
It&39;s the highest free-standing mountain in the world and Molefe, together 45 others, is hoping to reach the highest peak on the African continent on 18 July – Mandela Day.
Trek4Mandela was established in 2012 by Richard Mabaso with the aim of creating awareness around the challenges facing impoverished girls in rural areas and poor schools during their monthly cycles.
Through the expedition, money is raised to purchase sanitary towels so that needy girls across South Africa don’t have to miss a single day of school.
It&39;s an ambitious journey that has seen approximately 25,000 people attempt to summit Mount Kilimanjaro annually, but only two-thirds are usually successful as altitude-related problems often force climbers to turn back.
To pledge R30 to the cause - SMS “OG” TO 42513.
This will raise money for Caring4Girls programme which has helped more than 270,000 girls.
The group hopes to increase that number to 350,000 and then two million by the year 2020.
