JOHANNESBURG -- The acting national commissioner of police, Khomotso Phahlane, said on Friday that there is no imminent threat to Public Protector Thuli Madonsela.
Phahlana says while Madonsela does not qualify for VIP protection, she does now have guards.
“In this instance the Public Protector does not fall under the category of those that receive Protection like Presidents and so on but this is according to threats. So we have assigned Protection to her and we do reviews to assess the situation,” said Acting National Commissioner of Police, Khomotso Phahlane.
Madonsela had said a Western Cape gang boss was paid R700, 000 to kill her.
eNCA tracked down the source of the tipoff Madonsela received about the death threat.
She is a well-known Cape Town drag artist who goes by the name of Queenie Madikizela Malema.
