JOHANNESBURG - City Press reports that newly-appointed Energy Minister David Mahlobo is finalising a new integrated energy resource plan (IRP).
The IRP, which is set to be released four months ahead of schedule, will enable Mahlobo to predict South Africa&39;s energy demands based on empirical evidence.
Mahlobo, who was Security Minister before being moved to energy, told the publication that energy is central to national security and shouldn&39;t be treated as only an economic issue.
The revelations come after Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba said a proposed nuclear energy plan is too expensive.
The plan would cost South Africans in excess of R1-trillion.
