JOHANNESBURG - City Press reports that newly-appointed Energy Minister David Mahlobo is finalising a new integrated energy resource plan (IRP).
The IRP, which is set to be released four months ahead of schedule, will enable Mahlobo to predict South Africa's energy demands based on empirical evidence.
Mahlobo, who was Security Minister before being moved to energy, told the publication that energy is central to national security and shouldn't be treated as only an economic issue.
The revelations come after Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba said a proposed nuclear energy plan is too expensive.
The plan would cost South Africans in excess of R1-trillion.
