MIDRAND - ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe sang the outgoing public protector's praises.
Mantashe says Thuli Madonsela gave the governing party a run for its money.
Addressing the Black Management Forum's annual conference, Mantashe said one of the ANC's failures during the recent municipal elections is that it didn't interact enough with South Africans.
He says the decline in key metropolitan areas was a trust deficit issue, rather than a dissatisfaction with service delivery.
He says progressive institutions like the BMF should interrogate the party more.
Mantashe says the ANC cannot afford to only be at Luthuli House, but needs to interact more with South Africans.
Talking about the ANC’s plan to fight corruption and looting by exposing its employees to lifestyle audits, Mantashe says the party had decided to stop scoring "own goals’ against itself".
