CAPE TOWN - Concerns have been raised about the time set aside in the search for a new public protector.

CATCH IT LIVE: Interviews for Public Protector post

The ad hoc committee tasked with the challenge is set to sit for 16 hours on Thursday, to sift through the credentials and interview 14 candidates vying to fill Thuli Madonsela&39;s shoes.

That means an hour has been set aside for each candidate. Civil organisations argue that the time allocated to each candidate may not be enough.

Shortlisted nominees include current Deputy Public Protector Kevin Malunga, High Court Judge Seraj Desai and Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions Willie Hofmeyr.

Questions have been raised about Malunga -- He has come under fire for failing to disclose that he was dismissed as a lecturer from Wits Law School in 2009.

The committee is set to finalise their process by the end of the month.
